Patsy Gilliam's School of Dance

From 1962 to 1969, Helen "Patsy" Gilliam held her School of Dance in the Randall-Lewis House. Gilliam studied ballet in New York City before instructing dancers in Tallahassee for nearly fifty years. According to Byrd Lewis Mashburn, Clifton's daughter, Patsy took on African American students, which ultimately cost her the studio. Gilliam was a Civil Rights activist, defying the segregated society standards to teach dance to students of all backgrounds.
